With infections, burns, before or after surgery, in pregnancy, or with aging, 50-75 mg of zinc per day is suggested as a therapeutic dose. Groups at risk, such as growing children, pregnant women and elderly people should have a higher zinc intake provided by dietary measures or supplementation.
