NUTRITECK
OMEGA 3-6-9

OMEGA 3-6-9 FORMULATION IS A BLEND OF..Borage oil (400 mg), Certified
Organic Flax seed oil (400 mg), Fish oil 18/12 (400 mg) and natural Vitamin
E (10 IU).
Borage oil is obtained by mechanically cold-pressing
the collected seeds from the plant, followed by a filtering process. Borage
oil contains 20 - 26 % of the threefold polyunsaturated fatty acid, gamma
linolenic acid (GLA C18:3-6); the highest level derived from any plant
source.
Certified Organic Flax seed oil is obtained by
mechanically cold-pressing the collected dried and ripe seed of the
plant, followed by a filtering process. Flax seed oil is especially rich in
alpha linolenic acid (ALA); which is the world's richest source of Omega-3.
Omega-3 fatty acids are primarily found in seeds and plants grown in cold
climates, in green, leafy vegetables, and in oils extracted from cold-water
fish.
Fish oil is very rich in docosahexaenoic acid (DMA)
and ei-cosapentaenoic acid (ERA). These long chain essential fatty acids are
also know as omega-3 fatty acids.
Both omega-6 and omega-3 essential fatty acids are
stored in the cell membranes of tissues, and have two primary functions.
First they are structural components of cell membranes where they ensure
fluidity, stability, and act as gate-keepers in the cells. Secondary they
ensure the production of pros-taglandins, hormone-like substances that
regulate many of the body functions, including heart rate, blood pressure,
blood clotting, fertility and conception.
Prostaglandins also play a role in regulating
inflammation, which is a major characteristic of many immune disorders.
Prostaglandins both encourage the body to fight infection and prevent the
inflammatory response from getting out of control.
Oleic Acid, an Omega 9 found in Flax seed and Borage oil,
is a monounsaturated fatty acid and is not considered "essential" but does
play beneficial roles in human health.

Ref. and Educational Information
Health Benefits
A lack of EFAs in the diet can lead to deficiency
side effects such as reproductive shut-down,
poor skin health, and liver or kidney disorders. Additionally, malnutrition
may develop as EFAs are necessary for the proper break down of the
fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. Omega-3 fatty acids in particular are
absolutely vital for proper brain, eye and heart health.
Aside from maintaining good health, omega-3 fatty acids
in particular offer other health benefits. Omega-3’s have been found to have
an anti-inflammatory effect, and may help those suffering from inflammatory
diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and other autoimmune disorders.
Additionally, these fatty acids may help ward off mental disorders such as
depression by supporting the brain, which is largely composed of fatty
tissue. Studies are underway to investigate possible cancer fighting
properties of omega-3 fatty acids.
Usage Indications
Typical American diets are usually lacking
in omega-3 fatty acids and over abundant in
omega-6 fatty acids (often found in packaged and processed foods). The
optimal ratio of these nutrients is 1 to 5, respectively.
Good sources of omega-6’s: vegetable oils such as corn,
sesame, soybean and sunflower, seeds, nuts,
grains and leafy green vegetables.
Good sources of omega-3’s: oils such as flaxseed, soybean,
walnut, or canola, and liquid or soft margarine made from these oils, and
coldwater fish (mackerel, salmon, tuna, etc.).
FDA
Announces Qualified Health Claims for Omega-3 Fatty Acids
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
announced the availability of a qualified health claim for reduced risk
of coronary heart disease (CHD) on conventional foods that contain
eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) omega-3 fatty
acids.
Typically, EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty
acids are contained in oily fish, such as salmon, lake trout, tuna and
herring. These fatty acids are not essential to the diet; however,
scientific evidence indicates that these fatty acids may be beneficial in
reducing CHD.
"Coronary heart disease is a significant
health problem that causes 500,000 deaths annually in the United
States," said Dr. Lester M. Crawford, Acting FDA Commissioner. "This new
qualified health claim for omega-3 fatty acids should help consumers as they
work to improve their health by identifying foods that contain these
important compounds."
A qualified health claim on a
conventional food must be supported by credible scientific evidence.
Based on a systematic evaluation of the available scientific data, as
outlined in FDA's "Interim Procedures for Qualified Health Claims in the
Labeling of Conventional Human Food and Human Dietary Supplements", FDA is
announcing a qualified health claim for EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids.
While this research is not conclusive, the FDA intends to exercise its
enforcement discretion with respect to the following qualified health claim:
"Supportive
but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA
omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. One
serving of [name of food] provides [x] grams of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty
acids. [See nutrition information for total fat, saturated fat and
cholesterol content.]
In 2000, FDA announced a similar
qualified health claim for dietary supplements containing EPA and DHA
omega-3 fatty acids and the reduced risk of CHD. FDA recommends that
consumers not exceed more than a total of 3 grams per day of EPA and DHA
omega-3 fatty acids, with no more than 2 grams per day from a dietary
supplement.
The EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acid
qualified health claim is the second qualified health claim that FDA has
announced for conventional food. For additional information about QHC visit:
